Re: Cannondale to move all production overseas

That's right, Randy. And whether anybody here wants to realize it or not, most of the world's high-end bicycle frames have been made in Taiwan for over a decade now. Taiwanese production facilities use good labor practices and actually pay their workers quite well. They are also extremely meticulous and consistent in their production quality, so why shouldn't they get the production contracts?

Many of you who complain about Dorel's recent decision are the very same people who bargain hunt for best possible deal, making it impossible to cover the cost of employing American framebuilders.

Trek owners, lower thy noses. I've worked for multiple Trek dealers over the past 12 years (including a concept store) and peeling off "made in Taiwan" labels was standard practice in all of them. Like it or not, if you've bought a new bike from a North American company in the last 10 years that wasn't a Cannondale or an independant custom builder, then you've bought a bike made in Taiwan - and you loved it. So come down from your ivory tower and get over it.

Let's face it, Taiwan is quickly becoming the world center of bicycle production, much of it of excellent quality. Name a single major bike brand still made state side, except for Trek. And I believe thatÂ’s just their carbon models.
