Elkhorn Classic Stage Race
Don, etal,
Yes, to be eligible for the masters championship category, you needed to register in one of the masters fields. This allows a masters racer a competitive option by still being eligible for an OBRA championship even if though they may not consider themselves a GC contender.
As mentioned in earlier press releases, because this is the first OBRA Stage Race championships and there are many non-OBRA racers there will be a separate scoring after the final Elkhorn GC results are posted that applies only to OBRA members eligible for championship medals:
Men registered in the 1/2, Cat3, Cat 4/5 will be eligible for their respective race categories.
Men registered in the Masters 40+ 1/2/3 and 4/5 will be eligible for the Masters awards broken down in 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59,60+
Currently there is no Elkhorn Masters category for the women so all OBRA women will be scored as a 1/2, cat3, or a Cat4. Then any OBRA women over 40 will also be scored in the same masters age breakdown as the men. In the event a women qualifies for a medal as both a category and masters rider - the category award will take precedent.
NOTE: Elkhorn would have been happy to split the men masters field from one peloton of 75 riders into two pelotons of 75 each were masters rider to provide the additional vehicles and drivers needed for the extra field. Based on the feedback, responses, and comments our current plan is the most preferred.
Thanks everyone for helping make the first Stage Race Championships a possibility!
Ernie.

SR just a seperate scoring of OBRA riders only in the Elkhorn's regular
categories? Or is it kinda seperate like the Mt Hood Classic seemed to
be, sort of. If I'm a 60+ OBRA guy, should I have entered into the 40+
Masters, 4-5s and just been scored against any other 60+ OBRA men who
may have entered? I realize the Elkhorn masters fields are full and
closed now..so it's too late.. but for next year...
curious, if that is the case, did any other old guys enter the regular
masters, thinking to compete for the 60+ OBRA stage racing title? I'll
guess nobody in my age category actually seriously thinks they may
be contenders for the GC win.
