Many folks declare that the thing in the box is "exercise equipment". Not a major stretch of the facts, but the danger of doing this is if there is any damage in transit or handling you will be on your own for repair.

You could always take a tip from Randonneurs and "ride to the ride". ;-)

check out J-pows article about flying with bikes...It has worked for me...Basically I tell them it's anything but a bike. The worst I have gotten is oversized charge, but it's usually $40 or $50 and not the hundreds they would charge for a bike. I have flown with kayaks too...tell em it's a surfboard! Half the cost!
