Ed,
It's easy enough to do on your own if you have the right drivers to remove
the back. I've taken mine to various watch shops over the years and it's
usually under $10.
But.the reason Polar wants you to send it to one of their authorized
locations is that they supposedly pressurize the cavity as they're
reinstalling the backing.at least that's what they told me. The pressure
helps prevent h2o from wicking into the case.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Polar HRM Question
OBRA Land:
Batteries in my Polar HRM need to be changed.....the watch, not the
chest strap.
In the past, Polar has stated the watch needs to be sent to them in NY
as the device needs to be 'recallibrated' after battery removal &
installation.
Anyone out there in OBRA land just changed them and not sent it
back to Polar......or am I the only one gullible enough who has sent it in?
Thanks,
Ed
