I got away with it the first time. Last week not so good. I got the unit working but it now blanks out when I hit the start button. A new battery cost $5. The service is $15. If you do it your self before the two year warranty is up you void the warranty. For $10 I would send it back to NY for a new seal a electronic test. Altimeters are trick and the chips are susceptible to electric shock. So run across your carpet and stick your screw driver in there an see what happens. I am praying that Polar will have pity on me and still honer the warranty and get my unit working. After reading some of the comments, I think the battery might be out of spec and over charging the unit.

OBRA Land:
Batteries in my Polar HRM need to be changed.....the watch, not the
chest strap.
In the past, Polar has stated the watch needs to be sent to them in NY
as the device needs to be 'recallibrated' after battery removal &
installation.
Anyone out there in OBRA land just changed them and not sent it
back to Polar......or am I the only one gullible enough who has sent it in?
Thanks,
Ed
