The only non tubeless mountain tire I have had really good success with
(running tubeless on stans rims) is the "SCHWALBE" Little Albert. This is
29". I am sure there are other tires that would work as well or better than
L. Al, but they have been rock solid. They have a very sturdy sidewall. I
just mounted and raced Echo on stans rims..... the "HUTCHINSON" Toro
tubeless tire. NOW there is a tire that I think will live longer than I
will. These things have very strong sidewalls, look like they will clean
out mud very well (one of my main buying points of a tire as I do not change
tires for different surfaces) and I can tell you with a great sense of
security that these babies are sealed on those rims.... I only added the
sealant for a puncture. I know they weigh more than a tube-type tire, but I
think they will work great this season. I could tell you stories about what
I tried to do to get the bead to break free from rim. Of course if I do
ever flat, I probably will not be able to even get the tire off the rim. Oh
well...deal with that when IF it happens.(Book binding tape is also an
option for a damaged sidewall).
my two cents
