The AVC is less than two weeks away! This year's event is shaping up to provide one of the deepest fields for all categories (elite men, elite women and masters) that we've seen in Portland for the past few years. Riders from all over the United States will converge at the Alpenrose Velodrome to compete in the three-day event. They will be joined by riders from Australia, Guatemala, Canada, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Block out July 18, 19 and 20th to come out to the velodrome and cheer on the local racers as they compete against some of the nation's best for over $12,000 in combined prizes.

The event is FREE to all spectators and will feature kiddie kilo's at the beginning of the Saturday and Sunday evening sessions. Bring your friends, co-workers and family to this special event.

The Saturday intermission will feature The Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers!

Summer has arrived and the Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge is only 26 days away! The 10th annual AVC will feature some of the best track racers in the nation mixing it up with local riders who are all vying for over $11,000 in cash.

There are several ways to help support this great event. One way is to provide financial support to elite riders traveling to the event. A second way to help is to provide host housing for riders. A third way to help out is by volunteering. And the fourth way to support the event is to come out and cheer the riders on during any of the six sessions.

The event schedule and registration information is posted at www.alpenrosechallenge.com.

Wow!!! That was an event. Any one that was not there, really missed out.

It was either the best cycling event we have ever been to, or at least in

the same class as Sea Otter and the World's largest 24 Hour mountain bike

race, the 24 Hours of Snowshoe.

The crowds where huge and they were loud! The competition was great.

Jeremy and myself had a great time and were so proud and happy for Oregon

racing. The event was very well organized. In comparison to what we see

at big national events this was better and much more racer friendly. There

were so many cool extras for everyone. I am thinking of free chips, and

noise makers for the crowd and free dairy products and jucies for the

riders.

Knowing the event was getting TV coverage was exciting and puts it on par

with some of the other great events we have seen.

Jeremy loved getting to meet some of the really great names in track

racing. Of course Marty was very high on that list, but he was excited to

meet and talk to many of the other great racers that were at the race. And

of course he had a great time getting to see many of the great heros of

Oregon Track racing.

So far being able to do demos in front of his favorite group of racers in

the world ( OREGON RACERS ), is the highlight of his year.   There really

is no place like home and Oregon will always be our home. We will never be

able to express how much you guys mean to us and how much you have helped

us out as a famliy. It will never change, Jeremy would not be having the

fun he is having today with out your support.

Thanks to everyone involved in putting on this event. We can hardly wait

for next year. Actually we are hoping the National Champions at Mount

Snow, Vermont and the World Championships at Vail, Coloradao can be this

fun and exciting.

Mike, I am the coordinator for the bikementor.com program through the

WSBA...I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sending an email to the OBRA

membership..I am looking for mentors. What bikementors is all about is

assigning an individual who is interested in bike racing (road or Mtn) or

triathlons with a seasoned Racer in their field of interest. I have been

receiving quite a few requests from Oregon and would like to assign mentors

within the same general area so if they want to do some one on one training

with their mentee they can.. What a potential mentor need do is have a

willingness to help out a new rider (male or Female), help them get set up

on a local team, answer questions and training tips. They can sign up by

going to the bikeride.com webpage and click on bikementors on the right side

of the homepage. One in there: sign in as a mentor and give a little

background on themselves so I can match mentees to that person. This would

be an enourmous help...Thank you, Tricia Lawrence WSBA/Bikementors
