CycloCross is not a real priority for USA cycling for the simple
reason that is NOT an Olympic sport. USA cycling gets a lot of funding
from the US Olymic Committee, but that money can only go toward Olympic
sports. Cross does not generate a whole lot of $$$ for USA cycling and
they don't have alot of extra $$$ hanging around at the moment.
The US cross foundation is a not for profit that generates funds to
help US riders get to Worlds. I don't have the website address at the
moment, but they have been helping US crossers for years. All the money
they raise goes to the riders (no managment fees).
I would suggest that people in this state give their cross donations
to Barry and not to the US cross foundation, but keep them in mind for
the future.
From what I understand, USA cycling gives a full ride for all the
automatic qualifiers for the USA Cross team. Barry was a "coach's
selection" for the team, which, I believe means that he has to pay his
own way. The only way to be an automatic qualifer for the team would be
to win Nationals or get a lot of UCI points in Europe.
