Hey, Ivan,

You might want to see about getting that dog put down. It sounds like the

same one that attacked Steve Wright about 2 years ago and put a huge bite

into Steve's thigh.

Details pertaining to the cyclist/dog incident on Skyline, Saturday morning,

January. 11;

I (Ivan Meadors) was riding with a group of Corben-HuntAir team-mates

including

Ron Magnus, Ron Feldman, Mike Mauch, Beth Whittaker plus a couple of other

cyclists; Jan Moss & Dean Lucas. We had climbed up Thompson and were heading

west

on Skyline, looking forward to a training ride on a dry morning. As we

approached

Springville Rd, where Skyline descends then has a short intermediate length

climb,

Mike and Dean rolled off the front by about 20 meters. Ron M, Ron F and

myself

accelerated to take advantage of the downhill. As we approached the red

barn, just

prior to where Springville Road intersects Skyline, a large shepherd dog

came charging

out from either the corner of the barn or beneath the fence. I think Ron F

was in front

of me and I remember seeing the dog only for a second or less. None of us

had a chance

to issue a warning; it appeared that the dog was intent on coming right into

me, almost

as if it had been laying in wait to attack the bike. It was about an 80

pound dog, so when

it hit the front wheel (the dog ended up with scratches on it's nose/face,

suggesting

to me that it only contacted the wheel from the side) there was little hope

for me

to remain upright. I somersaulted and impacted on my left shoulder blade, at

which point

I felt/heard the clavicle/collar-bone break, followed by impacting the back

of my helmet

on the road surface (I felt the helmet bouncing twice on the surface). I

slid for a ways,

then I either rolled off the road surface or was assisted from the road (a

brief moment

of obscurity) to the gravel on the edge. Fortunately, the riders in our

group included

two people from the medical industry (thanks Jan Moss & Dean Lucas), who

provided proper

recommendations and support. And of course, the 911 cell-phone call by Ron !

The neighbors

in the area provided blankets and support and the dog's owner was notified

(thanks Beth).

The ambulance picked me up and that's the end of the story for about 6

weeks.

A touch of deja vu: the ambulance driver was the same one who had reacted to

the last

call (11 years ago) for a cycling accident on Skyline in which I was

involved (but that

time it was only as an observer, not a victim).

Thank you to those who helped and to those who sent their regards ...

See you in 6 weeks

In another incident, today my riding group came upon some cyclists standing

alongside Skyline, near Thompson. One was lying down, partially covered

with blankets. Ivan Meadors evidently collided with a dog, and from what he

said, it sounds like he injured his clavicle. He was being assisted by the

rest of his group and at least one other person (I couldn't tell if he was a

motorist or a resident of the area). A fire truck and ambulance arrived

shortly.

I'm thankful/hopeful it wasn't too severe an accident, as it was on a

downhill stretch.

I trust I haven't invaded Ivan's privacy by reporting this! We look forward

to hearing details on his recovery!

Be careful out there!

David A.

Hi. I just read this. Was anyone else on the obra list riding with him in

that group? Is that really how it happened? Anyone have contact info?
