My employer let me out of work early so I could ride. I hit Fox Hollow at a

modest tempo, crested the "summit" and reveled in the endless view. gazing

into the coast range I was reminded how long it's been since the view has

been so clear, beautiful. I descend off the hill into the valley, along the

meandering floor I put my nose to the stem and grind off an hour of tempo.

It was a marvelous day, light wind, clear and smelled great. I near the end

of the ride and it's too perfect to end yet. I take the long cut home, up

McBeth. I crawl up the twisting ascent spending half of my time looking off

my shoulder to the west at the setting sun. As I round the final corner that

faces me west I was embedded in a world of gold and copper. The sun was

below the horizon and the world was enchanted. Young fir trees rose from the

edge of the road to the sky, stretching vigorously leafed in gold. I could

see the intense gold/copper sky through the forest up the road in front of

me. The road cascaded down the hill at me like a river of white gold,

glossy, warm and other worldly. every single object in my vision was

monochromatic, even the air held the color of copper. time slipped away and

I embraced such a unique experience wholly. Zen? I was awed fully, until I

turned the corner and was staring at an emerald necked peacock. a world of

copper set afire with the glinting neck of a peacock. the contrast was

alarming. satisfied? lucky? complete.
