For some of my heavier customers the Velocity Deep V
has worked well with 36 spokes. It seems like,
regardless of the rim choice, the strongest spoking is
14/15/14 double butted spokes on the front and left
side rear, with straight 14 gauge on the right side
rear. The deep aero rims of any brand do stay
straighter under bigger people without having to
resort to 40 or more spokes--the only problem with
that many spokes is that hub varieties are few and
prices are usually way at the high end such as Hugi,
Phil Wood, and Chris King.
