Re: Why so few women at State RR?

Not everyone is unwilling to travel. We Southern Oregonians basically have to

travel all the time to race. Flip the situation and imagine having only two

races that you don't have to travel for.

Thus, should we assume that the STATE'S racing really occurs in PORTLAND?

This is just an observation that I have made numerous times, during the

years that I raced (and loved both Southern OR courses during the old Pear

Blossom weekend).

I think the question should be why don't racers want to travel anymore?

Richard,

It looks to me like the # of racers was down in ALL catagories for the

District Road Race. There were only 7 men in the 30-34 age group for example

and this is usually a much larger group. I hope that no one makes an

assessment based on one race's data of the overall health of women's racing

in Oregon and thus suggest that we should limit the opportunities for women.

Both Monday night PIR racing and the MT. Tabor Series have had GREAT

turnouts for women in all catagories.

Just curious...

There has been talk on this board of how few racing opportunities there are

for

women, however, we had a great road race course and promotion for the state

championships this weekend, and if memory serves there were six women total

(three senior and three masters)?

I hope lack of participation does not further reduce the opportunities for

women

to race, however, I fear it will.
