Josh was riding a Nimble. Its all carbon. As he said jokingly, "its worth more
than my life." It might have been fine, but I don't think he wanted to risk
damaging the wheel.

Don't mean to belittle Josh's awesome finish, or any of the other riders who
flatted, but why not just ride it in? I have had many flats where I was
just too lazy to change it and rode it home. One time I even managed a rear
flat (my third of the day) for almost 40 miles and to top it of flatted the
front with 10 miles to go. I can understand not wanting to ride a clincher
that is flat as they do get a little wobbly (and the tandems might be a bit
scary), but if you are doing the TT on a tubular, those actually ride pretty
well when flat. It is not that hard to do close to 20 mph with a flat if
you pay attention and slow up for the corners. Regardless it is much faster
than running it in.
So what is the reason for not just riding a flat in, especially near the end
of a TT? Just another stupid bike racer question.
