The 30-39s are Cats 1-5 older than 30. Typically the pack is smaller than
the 4-5 pack, so there is less shelter. Because of the disparity, often the
pack splits, though not always. What does all this mean? In my own
experience, the 30-39 race is harder than the 4-5 race. Your experience may
be different.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] PIR first-timer...
Hey gang - looking to head out to PIR for my first road race. Yee haw!
A question on where I ought to be, though. I'm 35. I see "Masters 30-39"
showing up on the Monday results, and "Cat 4/5" on Tuesday. I'm going to hit
the Cat 5 crowd tonight (and get dropped like a bad habit, no doubt *grin*).
What's the real difference between the two? Obviously, one (the Cats)
appears to be skill/fitness-based, and the other more age-based.
