Richard Sweet
We are in the last week before the Oregon State Championship Road Race this
year. As many found out during the rehearsal the course is a hard one and
will make a worthy State Champion.
I have seen allot of people out pre-riding the course making there plans for
the race. The course is in good shape and if the weather holds true to the
forecast we will see slightly cooler temps then this past weekend. I will be
out sweeping the course this week and double checking the corners on
Saturday morning.
Race numbers, you should have two numbers on. One on the back in the middle
and one on the left side.
The feed zone will be on Pine Grove road, on the hill just before making the
left onto Spencer Creek road. We got reports of riders feeding in other
zones last time, this could get you disqualified from the race if done.
Just a reminder for the race, the winners of the Senior Men and Senior women
race will get a Championship Jersey and Vest. This race is open to all men
and women with an valid annual OBRA membership, regardless of category. If
you win another one of the age or category specific races you can purchase
these items at $40 each from OBRA.
We will not be doing the Tandem class this race.
The championship Categories for this race will be the following;
Senior Men: 105 miles, 10:00am start
Senior Women: 60 miles, 10:05am start
Men Masters: 40-49, 50-59 and 60+ :45 miles, 10:15am start
Women: Cat 4, Masters 30-39, 40-49 and 50+ :45 miles, 10:20am start
The Non-Championship categories for this race will be the following, these
will get prizes and cash.
Men Cat 3/4/5: 45 miles, 10:10am start
Juniors 15-18: 30 miles, 1:00pm start (registration will end at noon, after
10:00 go to the finish line at the top of Doan Road and find me)
Juniors 10-14: 15 miles, 1:00pm start (registration will end at noon, after
10:00 go to the finish line at the top of Doan Road and find me)
It looks like we will have a good group juniors again racing for prizes so
come on out and support these up and coming racers so we continue to have
future stars on the road.
We may switch some start times around in the morning do to the Senior Men
going 105 miles, I will send out an email if it happens and have it posted
at registration.
If you pre-register you are guaranteed a Custom Oregon Championship Burley
Musette Bag complete with a Clif Bar and Clif Shot, if you don't you will
need to be one of the first 85 people to register day of race. If you
register online at www.orbike.com, there is a $1.42 charge, bring your
registration receipt with you, registration closes on Wednesday online.
The Directions to Staging area were a little bit off last time so here is
the corrected version. I hope this helps clear things up a little more.
Take I-5 to exit 195B and head west on Beltline Hwy and follow it to the
intersection at Hwy 126. Take a right on Hwy 126 (heading West). Take a
left (south) on Greenhill road, there is a stop light and gas station on the
NE corner, as well as a sign that directs you to Crow. In about 1/4 mile or
less it turns into Crow Road, continue for approximately 8 miles to Crow
High School, which is on the right at 25863 Crow Rd. Drive time from
Portland/Bend/Medford is approx 2 1/2 hours.
FYI, We will have water this time at the finish line, sorry about that last
time. Awards and medals will also be at the finish line, all championship
winners will need to be around to get pictures taken. If you won your
championship during the Rehearsal RR and would like to have your picture
taken on the podium please find me at the finish so we can set it up.
