Zipper repair.

Matt Martel

Hi Michael,

I am in PDX. I use DZ Alteration on 1222 SW Morrison St. They recently
replaced a zipper on my skin suit. I had them sew on a larger zipper. Not
as pretty but more reliable.

My team had many zipper failures in the past. I was the clothing guy so I
got all the complaints. The zippers most of the custom cycling clothing
companies use for jerseys and skin suits are too delicate for what we put
them through, especially long sleeve and skin suits. On the other hand, a
larger zipper does not look as nice. Trade-off I guess.

Try Nicole Adamson ("Chicken Scraps -- a sewing company -- in Portland)).
Her husband James races, and she does alterations to all types of cycling
clothing. She's done some work on my skinsuits and I've been very pleased
with the results. I had a broken zipper on my TT suit and she repaired it
better than the original.

Often the zipper itself is fine, it just needs a new slider - or even a
simple slider adjustment.

In Bend Scissorbird Sewing is the place to go. They have fixed some of
my zippers in a few minutes when I simply walked in and I highly
recommend their service.
