First of all, I want to thank everyone who came out and raced or worked at the first edition of the Mount Hood Cycling Classic. It was a great weekend.
We are having a few wrap up meetings, and will put the race to bed for a few months, but I have one question about the number of fields.
Do the folks in OBRA-land think there would be enough interest/riders to support a separate Cat. 4 group? It seems with the 3/4 fields at Columbia Plateau, Mt. Hood, and Elkhorn ( and possibly Cascade?) filling, perhaps we should look at reconfiguring the fields. Our Forest Service Permit will only allow 100 riders in a field, so we can't increase the size of the fields. (and we can only have 400 riders total)
Two options: 1, we make the 3/4 field open only to 3s, and hope we get enough to fill the field, and the cat. 4s have to take the weekend off. OR, 2, we make a cat 4 field with a limit of 50 riders, and assume that we won't get anymore than 50 women, and let the cat. 3s have their own race. I really prefer the second option, but it is really expensive to add a lead car, one or two officials, and wheels (and prizes!), plus schedule in another field.
