An open apology to OBRA

Fellow OBRA members,
I wish to apologize to all of you who feel that I have offended you. The
intended character of my initial posting was to bring awareness to you, to
provide a service, not to impugn another cycling coach or other local
racers. Yes, the Hammer Nutrition article I referred to was an old article,
and that was my oversight. It was actually a new posting I received
yesterday on Facebook through a discussion among racers in Washington
regarding the RaceClean program and this article was referenced. I read it
but did not note the date. Jeff Tedder and I have clashed over differences
in the past and when he called me "lame", my initial reaction was to defend
my honor. I now see that in so doing, I have insulted many of you. For that
I do apologize... to Jeff and his supporters.

I want to mention Mike Murray here... I did not see your response earlier
(for some reason it did not come through my email) or I would have replied
to that sooner. I am not inferring that OBRA allows cheating. I am simply
saying that without controls, cheating cannot be controlled, and though
most OBRA racers are racing with honesty and integrity, it is obvious to
most of us that there is some degree of that happening here in the NW. I
have been racing in OBRA for 13 years and a USAC certified coach for 11 of
those years, so I represent both agencies. As I said earlier, USAC frowns
on athlete supplementation simply because of product impurity issues. But I
disagree, since I have personally supplemented my "real food" diet for 35+
years and so I seek products that an athlete can take with confidence. I
promote clean living and clean competition. That is just one reason why I
have chosen to promote Klean Athlete. The NSF Certified for Sport program
was created to provide a certifiably reliable source of pure products in
this modern age of drug enhancement and cheaters. I do not want to malign
OBRA. I am in support of what you do.

I started this fire... now I would like to put it out so we can all move on
to more important things. Have a nice day everybody.
Sincere Regrets,
Mike Manning
