It is paved and hilly, at least the parts I've driven in a car from Sandy toward Bull Run, turning East onto Shipley Rd to Marmot Rd. I think I got back on Hwy 26 near Brightwood. I always thought the route you're talking about would be good to try cycling.
Check out http://www.Mapquest.com "driving directions" from Corbett, OR to Brightwood, OR. I've ridden the Portland Wheelmen's Torture Ten Thousand ride which covers most of those roads from Corbett to Sandy. They're hilly and great for cycling. I think it would be great to head East from that route, before reaching Sandy, taking Ten Eyck to Shipley to Marmot to Barlow Trail Rd. and eventually getting back on Hwy 26 at Rhododendron then on to Timberline.

I'm riding to Timberline this weekend and looking for the optimal route. Does anyone know if Marmot Road between Roslyn Lake and Rhododendren is paved or dirt? My map indicates that it is paved, but I don't trust it.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks
