Re: Hawaii big island road bike rentals

I've rented a couple of times in the last year from Bikeworks in Waikaloa
Village. Good shop, decent bikes and good location if you're staying in the
resort areas north of Kona. Not cheap, but nothing in Hawaii is. I brought
my shoes, pedals, helmet, garmin and tire kit and would advise others to do
likewise. I found a couple good routes on north end of island with decent
climbing and mileage. Waikaloa-Waimea-Kohala Mt Road-Havi (4k' feet up and
4k' down) return on Queen K highway. Also extension from Havi to Pollohu
Lookout and/or out and back on Kohala Mountain Road. Another good route is
out and back Waimea-Old Mamalahoa Hwy to Honokaa-Waipio Valley Lookout.
Old Mamalahoa Hwy is great. Queen K Hwy a hot, windy grind but the sun is
out and the ocean view nothing to complain about.

Shop folks obviously knowledgeable of area and ride alternatives. Can't
argue with riding in shorts and ss jersey in January.

Aloha
