Speaking as an airline employee and neutral service
mechanic for Shimano. No Tools are allowed on board as
carry-on luggage. I either check my tools or they stay
with our truck during the season. The TSA has
developed a new list of things not allowed in the
cabin of airplanes I believe you can go to their web
page to check. www.tsa.gov

I lost a good multi-tool which I forgot was in my
carry on, but the
X-Ray discovered it. The security person told me to
think in terms of
aggressive harm that any item could cause. Since I
am pretty non-violent
and never assaulted someone, this seemed like an odd
judgement call I
might make.
I used to be Mr. Carry on, now I check all but
paperwork and laptops
through.

My experience is that ANYTHING tool-like is a
no-no in carry-on
baggage. I learned the hard way, forfeiting some
nice tools in the
process. Check it all.
