Does anybody actually do it *regularly*? My own experience was that taking
the lane seemed like an immensely bad idea given how quickly I see vehicles
drive on it and riding the sidewalk on my road bike felt perilous.

There's a chance work will take me into St. Johns for a bit and from my
house in NW Pdx it would be a "simple" ride except for the bridge.

Let me know off-line your experiences.
