I take my MTB every few months, last time I had it out it functioned fine.

Jumped on today for a ride in the snow and right shifter was acting odd,
when pushing right large down shift paddle in for a down shift the paddle
moves freely all the way in but after a few presses while the downshift is
still not working it engages normally.

What's going on here?
