Subject: [OBRA Chat] AVC rider sponsorship
Last year for the Alpenrose Challenge we did something that was a bit
different which was very successful. We asked people to promise a little
bit of money to support getting specific riders to attend the Challenge.
In
many cases, just the promise of $100 or so made the difference. I am
hoping
that we can do the same this year. Who would you like to see attend? Let
me know and I will try to contact them to see if a bit of extra cash will
convince them. Let me know what you will give to support that. if it is
important to you I am sure that we can arrange for the rider to do
promotional items, meet you for lunch, whatever.
Here are some suggested names:
Men:
Steven Alfred - Multiple times winner of the sprint competition at the
Challenge and featured on this year's T-shirt. He is now an American
citizen and has been selected to the Worlds and PanAm teams. Given the
lack
of support for track racers from USCF this means that he has more costs
and
less opportunity to make money. He is a great guy and a good showman.
Jamie Carney - Here in 2002 just because of this sponsorship. Great
showman
and general track rider.
Steen Madsen - Canadian Sprinter and past AVC winner.
Jeff Hopkins - Australian. Winner of last year's keirin coming over the
top
of Nothstein at the last minute. Great general track rider.
Marty Nothstein
Patrick Hiedkamp - German. Will ride everything.
Shaun Wallace - British. Past Worlds medallist, now 41 and still a
contender in the Elite field.
There is a team of Argentinean riders looking to come:
Sebastian Alexandre - 9 times Argentinean National Track Champion, Pan Am
gold medallist
Juan Jose HAEDO - Pan American gold medallist, 4 times Argentinean
National
Champion
Gustavo Artacho you can see more about these guys at
http://www.colavitabolla.com/roster-main.htm. They are willing to wear a
local sponsor's jersey.
Women:
Joanne Kiesanowski - New Zealand rider came last year because of this
sponsorship. Very good rider who rode everything. Winner of last year's
omnium. Finish 5th in MEN's qualifier race.
Erin Mirabella - Right with Kiesanowski and ahead of her in the men's
race.
Sarah Hammer - Already interested. A few $s will get her here.
Ashley Kimmet
Sarah Uhl
Becky Quinn
Jenny Reed
Heather Albert
If you have other names feel free to let me know. I will offer any
support
you have to the riders directly. If they don't come you will not need to
pay anything.
