Hi OBRA,

I'll be in palm desert CA for a week later this month and plan on renting a
bike and doing some riding while I'm there this time.

I'm leaning towards road since I won't have a rental car of my own to get
to a trailhead, and also because the pave heading up to the mountains from
to the south is super new and nice seeming with a dedicated climb lane as
well when I scoped it last November, but I'm curious to hear what people
think of the trail riding down yonder.

Any shops to rent from for dirt or road bikes to recommend? Highways or
thoroughfares to avoid? Killer routes I shouldn't miss? I'm looking for
climbing. Any and all advice is welcome.
