This should be a permanent ban.

Dont necessarily agree with the Draconian response. Perhaps a suspension of license and/or foreiture
of a race win/place for that day (cmon folks, IT IS a simple rule) of 1 month. Subsequent infraction will
be a reward of a 3 month suspension. A 3rd infraction within a set period of time (say 2 years) will
result in a ban of 1 yr.

One more pissing post and then we're done:

It's not theoretical: public urination is why we no longer have Cake to go with our Pie.

My experience is that permitting agencies go out of their way to let us race, but they walk a fine line because they also serve a constituency that would rather we didn't exist. The downside to the promoter -- and race community in general -- is so great I wonder if the current penalties for rider misbehavior are strong enough.

You'll never know how hard it is to put on a road race until you do it. Don't make it harder by doing stupid stuff.

I am not sure that all would agree with you about OBRA being soft on penalties. I can think of several specific cases where people have complained that penalties were excessive.

People can propose any rule they like. If this is what you think the rule should be submit it for a vote.

The key is to represent an economic benefit to the area as opposed to a cost. Frankly, if bike races meant a big infusion of cash to the area of the venue people would probably put up with a little public urination.

Totally agree that the politics are tough. It's obvious by the fact that
folks are threatening to deny racing for what should be a generally benign
factor. I'm sure there are plenty of other reasons venues might be looking
to deny a race as well. And I couldn't agree more about constituencies who
would rather cyclists didn't exist. That's seems to be the underlying
problem, not the number ones.

Wish it was easy to get people to feel good about folks coming into their
towns to race and create excitement. It "appears" as though it works like
that in Europe. But I don't live there, so I'm making some assumptions.

It just bums me out a little I guess.

And 2002
And 2003
And 2004
And 2005...

Does anyone else remember that time someone said "Hey, we shouldn't pee along the road". And then someone else said "But I want to pee!". And this went back and forth for about 3 weeks? Good times. I think that was 2001.And 2002And 2003And 2004And 2005...

Agreed, my point was that I hoped he had learned.

My experience, though, is many Cat 1, pro, etc riders seem to think that
they are above rules. As just one example, look at numbers.

So because he was junior national team, that made it better? As someone who
raced most of my career on the national team, I'd argue the exact opposite.
You are, and should be held to a much higher standard.

It's as simple as this: If your actions result, or could possibly result in
the loss of a venue, you have no place racing in obra. But that's just my
view.

Dont
necessarily agree with the Draconian response. Perhaps a
suspension of license
and/or foreiture

of a race win/place for that day (cmon folks, IT IS a simple
rule) of 1 month.
Subsequent infraction will

be a reward of a 3 month suspension. A 3rd infraction within
a set period of
time (say 2 years) will

result in a ban of 1 yr.

Permanent might be a bit too much. Several years ago, a high-level Junior
(National Team, I think) was caught relieving himself off a bridge just
before the road stage of a stage race. He wasn't caught by race personnel,
but by a local - who didn't go to race personnel, but to a ranger, who went
to race personnel. The delay allowed the rider to start the race, and he
was pulled from the race, disqualified.

This year, the same rider, now U23 and National Team, won the race. I
wonder if he remembered what happened a few short years ago.

I fail to understand why people defend this. As has been stated, public
urination is illegal. Not just with obra or a promoter, but you know, the
actual LAW. Indecent exposure and aggressive littering.

Now, I haven't been to a ton of road races, but ill the ones I have been to
have plenty of bathrooms to use. Plan ahead better. Have to piss right
before you get on the start line? Better take a solo flyer and get the race
over quicker then.

This should be a permanent ban.

Dont necessarily agree with the Draconian response. Perhaps a suspension of
license and/or foreiture
of a race win/place for that day (cmon folks, IT IS a simple rule) of 1
month. Subsequent infraction will
be a reward of a 3 month suspension. A 3rd infraction within a set period of
time (say 2 years) will
result in a ban of 1 yr.

One more pissing post and then we're done:

It's not theoretical: public urination is why we no longer have Cake to go
with our Pie.

My experience is that permitting agencies go out of their way to let us
race, but they walk a fine line because they also serve a constituency that
would rather we didn't exist. The downside to the promoter -- and race
community in general -- is so great I wonder if the current penalties for
rider misbehavior are strong enough.

You'll never know how hard it is to put on a road race until you do it.

True, and if we were participating in a car show in town, and people were speeding in the cars past the local residents' houses and in near their kids, they'd probably be in the same mood - and attempting to get the event cancelled. On the other hand, if people try to limit their speeding to a proper race track, and their peeing to the provided port-a-potties, then we wouldn't have to go through this ridiculous discussion every single year. And more towns might be more welcoming of our events, rather than doing their best to get them cancelled. Just a thought.

Agreed, short suspensions and multiple do-overs aren't sufficient when
you're talking about something with the high likelihood of causing a race
to actually go away because you can't hold it. Yes, it's a simple rule.
That's why it's easy to follow.

In my mind that should be PERMANENT, yank the OBRA license and say ADIOS to the arrogant people that cannot follow simple rules because they think they are above them.....

Just my Friday thoughts.....: )

One more pissing post and then we're done:

It's not theoretical: public urination is why we no longer have Cake to go with our Pie.

My experience is that permitting agencies go out of their way to let us race, but they walk a fine line because they also serve a constituency that would rather we didn't exist. The downside to the promoter -- and race community in general -- is so great I wonder if the current penalties for rider misbehavior are strong enough.

You'll never know how hard it is to put on a road race until you do it. Don't make it harder by doing stupid stuff.

Been there, done that, and would definitely rather see
someone pee.

I was once on a plane, absolutely dying because of the
guy next to me. Finally I picked up a magazine and,
without saying a word or looking at him, fanned the
effluvium back at him.

Antisocial? Probably... But the farts stopped ;-)

You guys are both correct.
This wasn’t meant to be a debate, more of an
observation that we sometimes have a very strange way
of treating one another as people. It’s less about the
urination, and more about the threat of something that
is largely out of the race promoter’s direct control.
I’m sure it happens that venues get canceled “because
of peeing”. I’m not saying that people should openly
pee all over the place. I live in the same society as
you do, after all. And if a rule has been placed, you
should follow it, or not participate.

We should make farting on airplanes a crime. That
bothers me way more than peeing outside somewhere I
could see. If you would rather be farted on, on a
five-hour flight, than see a dude peeing on the side
of the road, raise your hand.

I’m off to waste water in my toilet now,

Race Update:

  • Special Thanks:
I would like to personally thank
    Paul Bourcier and Smith&Nephew
    p/b West End Bikes
    for sponsoring
two entries for juniors cyclist.  Thank
you for supporting the future and
    development of our sport.

  • Cat 1/2/3 Men
    Race
    :  With the addition of a 3rd
lap to this race only, a feed zone will be
implemented on the second lap shortly
after the finish line on Palestine Road.

  • Parking on
    Palestine Road
    :  In years
past, our spectators have come up and
parked on the side of the road to see
the riders finish.  After speaking the
with the residents and hearing concerns,
parking will be restricted to the
    downhill side of the
    Palestine
Road.  These steps are being implemented
per the request of the residence and for
the safety of the cyclists.  Please
    communicate this to all spectators,
    friends and family
    .

  • Adair
    Village
:  A couple of years back,
we experienced a issue where one of our
cyclist decided to relieve himself out
in the open (urination) and one of the
residence saw this.  Needless to say
this did not go over well.  After
    meeting with the high school
administrator this year about the race,
this was a HOT topic, and she wanted to
make a very strong point about it not
EVER happening again.  I cannot stress
how important this is to the future of
this event - because I promise you if it
does happen again - the Cherry Pie will
    be no more.

  • Rider
    Awareness
    :  Please be aware
when you are out on the road warming up or
coming back from your race - that we need
to make sure that we are as far to the
right as we can possibly be.  Residence in
the area also voiced concerns about riders
being 3 and 4 deep blocking the road.
Please remember that we are guest in their
neighborhood and we have to show respect
and common road sense.  We all represent
OBRA, so lets make sure we are policing
    ourselves and each other.

I was once on a plane, absolutely dying because of the guy next to me. Finally I picked up a magazine and, without saying a word or looking at him, fanned the effluvium back at him.

Antisocial? Probably... But the farts stopped ;-)

You guys are both correct. This wasn’t meant to be a debate, more of an observation that we sometimes have a very strange way of treating one another as people. It’s less about the

society as you do, after all. And if a rule has been placed, you should follow it, or not participate.

We should make farting on airplanes a crime. That bothers me way more than peeing outside somewhere I could see. If you would rather be farted on, on a five-hour flight, than see a dude peeing on the side of the road, raise your hand.

But that sort of pressure to prevent others from doing something we’ve done every day since before somebody created the outhouse is still very weird to me, and really unfair to the race promoter. I know we’re all “civilized” and everything, but c’mon! It’s
just a little pee between humans. We all do it. Shouldn’t it be way weirder to see somebody smoking in public than peeing? We Americans sometimes pick the strangest things to get worked up over. I’m just sayin.

I’m off to waste water in my toilet now, instead of going outside to pee on a nice plant. Somebody might accidentally see my “privates”!

Again, if the rule is no peeing on the road, than I’m all about honoring the rule. So please don’t misconstrue my intent here. I’m trying to say it seems unfair to give you that kind of ultimatum.

The 2014 Cherry Pie Road Race - ONLINE REGISTRATION is WIDE OPEN!

Race Update:

Special Thanks: I would like to personally thank
Paul Bourcier and Smith&Nephew p/b West End Bikes for sponsoring two entries for juniors cyclist. Thank you for supporting the future and development of our sport.
Cat 1/2/3 Men Race: With the addition of a 3rd lap to this race only, a feed zone will be implemented on the second lap shortly after the finish line on Palestine Road.
Parking on Palestine Road: In years past, our spectators have come up and parked on the side of the road to see the riders finish.
After speaking the with the residents and hearing concerns, parking will be restricted to the downhill side of the
Palestine Road. These steps are being implemented per the request of the residence and for the safety of the cyclists. Please communicate this to all spectators,
friends and family. Adair Village: A couple of years back, we experienced a issue where one of our cyclist decided to relieve himself out in the open (urination) and one of the residence
saw this. Needless to say this did not go over well. After meeting with the high school administrator this year about the race, this was a HOT topic, and she wanted to make a very strong point about it not EVER happening again. I cannot stress how important
this is to the future of this event - because I promise you if it does happen again - the Cherry Pie will be no more.
Rider Awareness: Please be aware when you are out on the road warming up or coming back from your race - that we need to
make sure that we are as far to the right as we can possibly be. Residence in the area also voiced concerns about riders being 3 and 4 deep blocking the road. Please remember that we are guest in their neighborhood and we have to show respect and common road
sense. We all represent OBRA, so lets make sure we are policing ourselves and each other.

If you're waiting to see what the weather will be like before registering, we understand.

Currently, the forecast shows a High of 66 degrees, 0% chance of "liquid sunshine", and N winds @ 6 mph. So...looks pretty good!

Pacific Power Blue Sky Racing staff will be there Sunday for Day-of-Event Registration to help you get through the lines as quickly as we can! We will also have OBRA licenses available for purchase (Season and 1-Day)! But, if you're still worried about long

of racing!

Online Registration: Adults ($25), Juniors ($15), Second Race ($10)

Day-Of-Race Registration: Adults ($30), Juniors ($20), Second Race ($15)

Ok, this is likely in poor taste but it's cracking me up all the
conversation about urination/elimination and it reminded me of this "Best
of Craigslist" post I read the other day:
http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/mod/3781647774.html

I know, I know - bad taste but I think it's hilarious and I'm sure some of
you all do too.

Plus, public uriniation/elimination is a misdeamanor offense.

It may seem unfair and it may seem like a dumb societal constraint but the fact remains that public urination is a large cause of race venue loss. It might not bother you and it might seem dumb that it bothers anyone but the fact remains that it bothers a lot of people.

I have to also point out that all your reasons apply equally to pooing and I think most will agree that we don't want that in public.

Rules are rules, and I totally get that. I¹m not arguing that public
urination is a rule that shouldn¹t be broken here. And I understand that
putting on a race and dealing with the politics of local folks is not easy.

But that sort of pressure to prevent others from doing something we¹ve done
every day since before somebody created the outhouse is still very weird to
me, and really unfair to the race promoter. I know we¹re all ³civilized² and
everything, but c¹mon! It¹s just a little pee between humans. We all do it.
Shouldn¹t it be way weirder to see somebody smoking in public than peeing?
We Americans sometimes pick the strangest things to get worked up over. I¹m
just sayin.

I¹m off to waste water in my toilet now, instead of going outside to pee on
a nice plant. Somebody might accidentally see my ³privates²!

Again, if the rule is no peeing on the road, than I¹m all about honoring the
rule. So please don¹t misconstrue my intent here. I¹m trying to say it seems
unfair to give you that kind of ultimatum.
