Two things are different. You are leaner and older than before.
If you are leaner but still wearing the same articles of clothing, there
is greater opportunity for them to shift around and rub, especially at
the chamois area. May be time for you to buy a smaller size.
As we age, the decline in both estrogen and testosterone levels makes
our skin drier and thinner. Drier, thinner skin is more prone to
chafing and irritation. So, while you may not have needed chamois
creams in the past, you may find that a bit of lubrication helps at this
point. They aren't all a greasy mess. However, be aware that the
water-based ones are not as "tenacious" as oil or lanolin based creams.
Water-based creams disappear more quickly and require application more
often. (Personally, I swear by Lantiseptic with 50% lanolin, but I'm a
randonneur and am in the saddle for stupid amounts of time.
Lantiseptic is probably overkill for a lot of people.)

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Chafing
Ok, kinda personal, but my thighs where, let's say, the front left and
right edges of my chamois might rub just outside my "bikini line" are
getting chafed now.
Not 3 years ago, not 2 years ago, never before in my life, but now it
happens with almost all my bibs and tights all sizes and brands afaict.
I don't get it, nothing is different but I'm leaner and older than
before.
I don't use any chamois cream of any sort and don't like a greasy mess,
but if that'll help I'll try.
Suggest some different way to wear my shorts or a highly water soluble
one that I can wash out or maybe it's time for band-aids or duct tape.
