It is beautiful and pretty dry. It is also an area to inhabit with respect. The distances between human population is great and the weather can be very harsh in all four seasons. You can easily get yourself in a mess and have a long wait for help.
Airplanes are usually so high you cannot hear them unless you are near farmland (crop dusters) or happen to experience our military running low flights. Great place to have grown up as I remember.

It's awesome. Try to see some wild mustangs when you go, they live up in the Steens mountains. There are a few great hot springs for chilling after a long day of riding, and Fields has a pretty damn good little cafe.
Ah Eastern Oregon, so beautiful and dry. So much cool stuff out there.
