Riding to Mt. Hood from Portland, redux.

Well,

I didn't make it, but I do have some info for those who read my posts.

After Multnomah Falls, you can go about 6 miles on the old scenic highway (highway 30) until it ends at a state park parking lot, and there you can continue east for about 6 more miles on the newly completed multi-use path. No cars, just joggers, cyclists and other ne'er do wells. There is one filght of stairs, so the cyclo-cross crowd will feel right at home and it puts you out in Cascade Locks (MP 51 on I84).

If you ever ride the Bridge of the Gods loop, the Oregon side no longer requires any riding on I84 and it was a super nice path. Albeit, not straight and a little mossy, but that's a mukti-use path for ya!

As for me, I was coming back from Hood River, so I got dropped of in Cascade Locks and rode home to Portland. It was super and I'd recommend that new little stretch.

I also spoke to a friend who works for the gorge commission and he told me that by 2016, if all goes to plan there will be connections from Cascade Locks to Hood River that do not involve I84. So stay tuned!

Mark
