For our Roundabout Spout XC MTB race in July we are using our own
registration system, no registration fee and no CC storage, although I
can't guarantee less clicks than OBRA's system.

Well I can sure add that from a user's perspective, the OBRA site is far easier to use. I just registered for a race and I have never clicked so many times in order to figure out how to get registered as I just did using Athlete path. Ugh!

Ditto what Candi said. Since less promoters seem to be using OBRA pre reg I have WAY more team name issues, etc. not only when I am Chief Judge but when posting results from other CJs!
Just remember when you are using pre-reg that is not OBRA, register with all the information you want to show in results. Abbreviating your team name with cause the team name not to show up on OBRA results page; thus, extra work for everyone.

Like Mike says. It is so easy to download registration in the camera and
scoring files that the OBRA judges use. It removes the process of entering
riders, ensure that the spelling and teams match.
I would like all the race organizers to use this site, and not just
because...............

I would like to point out that the OBRA site does not store your credit
card info, which is much safer for the consumer. I am not able to say that
of the AthletePath code. Both were vunerable to the heartbleed virus from
what I could tell. However I know exactly who to contact about security
questions with the OBRA site.

I can't speak to other online registration, but here's the scoop on OBRA: http://obra.org/online_registration
OBRA charges $1 per order + 5%. That's usually paid by the racer, though promoters can pay the fee themselves. That's pretty much it.
OBRA started its own registration because, like you, I found the existing services' fees expensive and also hard to use. Everyone, though, gets the same steep fees from credit card companiesthey charge a lot on even small transactions. Which is why the coffee shop really wants you to use cash
The OBRA registration is priced just high enough to cover our costs (including refunds and monthly fees), provide a margin so that we don't lose money, and to give me small compensation for the time I spend to run it.

Just curious on the economics because I know promoters like to see pre-registration, but when it comes with an extra $4 price tag, I'd much prefer to stand in line on race day and fill out a form (that 9 times out of 10 I have to fill out anyway once I get there, pre-reg or not).

Hi folks,
I noticed that the Sister's Stampede only has online registration via
AthletePath. I also noticed that AthletePath is now charging $4 per race
registration to use their service.
With more and more races running online registration through AP.com this
extra $4 is adding up pretty quickly.
I don't have insight in how much AP or Obra.org charges for promoters to
use their services, so my inquiry might be a bit naive, but I would love to
see promoters favor using signup services that don't charge such high
registration fees.
Obra.org is only $2.50 per signup. Are there costs to the promoter to use
Obra that make Athletepath a better option? Just curious on the economics
because I know promoters like to see pre-registration, but when it comes
with an extra $4 price tag, I'd much prefer to stand in line on race day
and fill out a form (that 9 times out of 10 I have to fill out anyway once
I get there, pre-reg or not).
Thanks,
Megan
