Hello everyone.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the first Wednesday Track

together a flyer now and will get that out soon. I am taking the artistic

approach so it is taking a little longer than expected.

for those of you figures and dates folks out there here are the stats. Art

will be posted on the OBRA and Alpenrose websites for your downloading

pleasure later.

Alpenrose Development Track Class

Every Wednesday

May 1st thru September 4th

6:00pm until Dusk

class $5.00

bike rental $5.00

bring your helmet, pedals and shoes.

we have plenty of pedals with toe clips if you only have sneakers

If you need a bike please arrive by 5:30 so we can get you set up.

class is cancelled if it is raining

If you live in oregon and ride a bike you owe it to yourself to get on the

track at least once.

challenge your coworkers.

me know and

we can arrange that too.

I couldn't agree more. After a couple of classes last summer with the

expert tutelage of Bill Cass and Steve Garcia, the leap into actual racing

on the track was much easier (and more fun) than I expected. Thanks to the

Murrays, the Cadanous and all the rest of the folks Bill mentions who

provide what really is an amazing cycling resource. Also thanks to Jamie

and the hard-working officials who made the Friday night masters' races

possible.

Last night was the last track class of the season and it was a

perfect night to end with. We had a bunch of first timers, a hungry group or

riders ready to race and enough women to have their own field. We rolled

some new riders up on the track, got some hearts racing and kept the shiny

side up. It appeared as though everyone even had a good time. The goal of

the program and my real hope is that a few of you will come out try your

legs at a race on Thursday or Friday night. It is only a small mental leap

from what most of you have done already. You have been training in bigger

groups than usually show up for race nights. Alpenrose velodrome seems like

such a normal part of cycling life here in Oregon we tend to forget how

unique it really is. It is a true gift to you from the Cadonau family. There

are very few tracks in the country and none is more accessible or active. I

hope to see you all again sometime next year.

I also wanted to send out a huge thanks to all those who came out

and helped teach the class. James, Graham, Steve, Ron, Mike, Peter, John,

Emily, Jamie, Darien, Chauncey and anyone else I missed. It is obvious that

the class would not happen without you. Thanks also to Jack for keeping

those bikes running for us. It is great to have such nice healthy machines

to run the class with. Finally, it would not happen at all if it weren't

for Mike and Candi and all the time, effort and money they have put toward

the velodrome and making Oregon a great place to race a bicycle.

Last night we set a new track class attendance record and as you

guessed from my previous email we were woefully understaffed. AVC attracted

quite a few newcomers to the track last night. 30+ riders showed up for

class and every GT rental bike was out on the banking. A special thanks to

Tom Durkin and Teran Martin (Bonnie too) for bailing us out last night. John

Lombard and Steve Garcia deserve a special award for working at the class

the entire summer. Last night we definitely could have used a couple more

track aficionados to make the groups a bit smaller. It appeared as though

everyone who came out last night had a good time and are planning to return

next week. The range of ages, abilities, and disabilities we had on the

track last night was truly inspirational. Everyone got up on the banks and

had a big grin on their face after doing a few turns. If you haven't come

out to take the class yet there are still a few weeks left to give it a go

before the weather turns.

If you didn't catch my plea for help here it is again.

We need help to finish off the season. Let me know

if you can lend a hand and I will schedule you in.

If you haven't ridden on the track yet.....come on out!

Putting out the distress call for anyone who wants to help out with the

track class for this evening or possibly one or two of the remaining classes

this summer. We are going to be short tonight and need some folks to commit

to a schedule for the following few weeks. Please drop by or send me an

email. Thanks.
