Heard on the radio yesterday that Weyerhauser (sp) is going to implement a permit fee system for their lands west of the Cascades. It will be (as I remember) a couple of hundred bucks per year and cover all uses on their lands including hunting, hiking, biking etc. They have done this already in some test areas with success (from the Company point of view) and look at it being a source of income in the future. I heard this on OPB radio and one person speaking about this noted that any legal challenge would probably not stand up. Possible laws could be proposed to prohibit, but would they stand up in court? It is private property.
So. If (when) this happens be ready for more pressure on the public lands if nothing else. Get your rides/ hikes or hunting in out on those lands like Longview trails, Scappoose etc. This will be interesting to see what happens.
