- The schedule always had the Cat 4 and Cat 5 riders together in a single field. There was no later combining of fields.
- The race announcement did not indicate that Cat 5 riders would be scored separately but they were.
- Pulled lapped riders should not be listed as DNF but should be ranked according to when they were pulled.
- A presumption that lapped riders would be all Cat 5 or even mostly Cat 5 is invalid. This might be the case if rider categorization were an exact process and all courses were equal for all riders but that is definitely not the case.
- Cat 5 riders were given places.
- Lastly, isn't the concept of a Cat 5 champion a little strained? Basically the fastest guy who hasn't ridden 10 races or for some other reason has not upgraded.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] lapped riders thread
How I interpreted the OP was his question involved rules specific to the promoters and its decision to merge fields. I didn't follow the registration of this crit but it sounds like the racer thought he'd be in a cat 5 only field and then was lumped at the last minute. This is sort of unique because it was a champs race - if all the cat 5s were pulled and assigned DNF, is there a current Cat 5 crit champ.
