Mt Hood uphill championship FINAL starting list...

E-Racer

2014-08-10

The 2014 OBRA Uphill Championship at Mt Hood Final Starting list is now posted:

Final instructions:

Numbers on the LEFT

You do not need to check in UNLESS you do not have a cloth number assigned listed on the starting list.

Day-of -registration is sharply from 8:30 - 9:30 so we can begin on time.

Warmup is on the far back side of the Government Camp rest area (as far from the day-use restrooms please)

The start line is approx 100 meters up the left side of Hwy26. You do NOT need to cross 26 to get from the warmup  to the start.

At the turn from West Leg Road onto Hwy173 there are two potholes to be careful of. Turn immediately to the left.

Stay to the LEFT of the cones and do NOT cross Hwy 173 or the parking area when finishing. Keep the cones to your RIGHT.

Do not descend on W Leg Road, no warming up on the course. Do not re-cross the finish line.

Awards will be posted and presented at the top after the last rider of that group is done.

This is an officials job. Be patient. Ask a volunteer not the officials so they can do things faster.

Be safe, always wear a helmet and remember you are ambassadors of our sport.

Thanks for Racing!!!!

Ernie. & Team

PS: Please thank our Barlow HS Track & Field, Team Elkhorn volunteers and our amazing officials when you see them.

Tonight's start list has been posted!!!

For those who need to sign up:           http://obra.org/events/22193/register

Registration closes at 3:00pm tomorrow and the final starting list will be posted tomorrow evening.

Good luck to everyone at Peoria!!!!!!!

---------------------------------------------

A gentle reminder that tomorrow (Saturday at 3:00pm ) on-line registration closes for good.

An updated start list will be posted tonight and the final start list tomorrow evening. That list will be sent to the officials and pre-registration is done.

Bring a camera for the vista like view atop the highest mountain in Oregon.  You'll want to selfie with you, the cascades, and your new OBRA championship medal. Ride fast, take selfie, post immediately, enjoy the view.

We will have a limited number of gaps between categories for day-of registration in order to provide a better method for the officials to score categories.

Day-of-registration is 8:30 - 9:30 sharp at the rest area.

We will determine awards for categories with less than 5 riders after registration closes.

Remember - anyone can race, but only season license holders are eligible for medals in recognized categories.

Numbers are on the Left.

There have been a couple of questions about the grade of the course.  The climb is just short of 2,000' over 6 miles, which one calculator showed to be 18% but another site notes an steady grade of 6 - 10%.  Come out with your techno-gear, win a medal, and tell everyone else how you rode up a 30% grade, on your 32 pound bike which only has a big-ring, and the brakes both drag.

Speaking of gear. we will take any backpack of bag to the top when registration closes at 9:30 and we move to the top.  Offer to take care of this for us, and race for free!

The pavement on West Leg Road is generally good though this is a service access road so beware of potholes or broken pavement in the shadows. There are a few paved divots along the way with minor gravel along the edges.  Also beware the road is generally not used, but we are not allowed to close the road so heads up as you ride.

We will have orange cones where West Leg joins Hwy 173 as there are two large potholes on each side of the road. Exercise care when turning left for the final assent. Note, when turning LEFT onto Hwy173 stay to the left and do not cross lanes. Stay to the right  of the cones up to the summit finish.

OBRA records for this course are:

Men: Billy Truelove and Alex Newport-Berra, 25:11 (both tied for the record)
Women: Jenny Slawta, 29:22

This is an OBRA event, helmets are required at all times, you will ride from Timberline to Government Camp along the main Hwy 173 road. DO NOT DESCEND ON THE COURSE. Please exercise caution when riding up or down a mountain

I just got back from checking out the course one last time and have confirmed that the course is not flat

There will be a bit of an elevation gain on your ride to an OBRA championship medal

4,000' to 5,900' over 6 miles equates to an average grade of 18%

Good luck to everyone on Saturday. Have a great day and lots of fun, then join us Sunday for a 2nd day of championship racing.

Okay, here we go with Tuesday updates:

Some clarifications:

The race clock begins at 10:00am at 00:00.  (The 9:30:00am start time on Monday was incorrect due to a bad formula).

Pre-registraton ends at 3:00pm Saturday (there will be a couple of more start time postings before) the Final Start Times will be posted late Saturday afternoon

Day-of-Registration will be available, but only from 8:30am - 9:30am so we can begin on time. Start times are first-come-first-serve after the pre-registered riders so sign up early and be ready.

Starting order is the newest registration to oldest.
