Hi Steve,
Thanks for much for the email. I feel embarrassed by all the attention but a
so very grateful for the medical assistance I received IMMEDIATELY on the
track. A huge THANK YOU to the DNR team member Nate McKewon, and the crew
who attended to me on the track. (Sorry I don't have your names off hand)
I've never had a crash like that ever and waking up to two calm
professionals was very reassuring. They'll tell you, I kept wanting to get
up and move. I did take a pretty good shot to the head and am appreciative
that the ambulance was called, it was the correct call. OHSU staff were
fantastic as well and attended to my needs and monitored my mental and heart
functions all through the night. My understanding is someone I had just
passed in the straight crowded my line in the turn so I slid out. Racing can
be dangerous but at this level and in that position, like 22nd? it's
unnecessary to push the limits.
I have a ritual of saying at the start of every race, out loud, " I have to
work tomorrow, anyone else? Let's be safe, let's stay up right and have
fun."
I'll still say it again at Cross Crusades, maybe more people will heed those
words.
I'm on the mend, should be up a running for Cross Crusades #1 and #2, get
back in that saddle and ride.
I appreciate everything that the team at OBRA does to offer fun, fair and
safe racing all week long.
Best Regards,
Brendan Quinlan
