Polka Dot Essay Contest - Team Rubicon and the Lance Armstrong Ride for the Roses

Team Rubicon /United Finance are currently accepting entries for our Rubicon- Polka Dot Essay Contest through September 8, 2003. The winner will receive the following Polka Dot prize package, courtesy of Team Rubicon and the Lance Armstrong Peloton Project.

Team Rubicon is an elite Northwest cycling team based out of Oregon and an active member of the Lance Armstrong Foundation's 2003 Peloton Project. The Peloton Project is the Lance Armstrong Foundation's major grassroots fundraising and outreach project. Comprised of cyclists, cancer survivors and other volunteers who want to make a difference in the cancer survivorship community, members raise funds and awareness for the LAF in their local communities. Peloton members receive awards based on the amount of money they raise. In the past 18 months the team has raised over $15K in support of the LAF and its mission to support cancer survivors. As a result, Team Rubicon has reached the 2003 Polka Dot Jersey Award level.

In the true spirit of our team and our mission to assist the LAF, we are turning around and awarding this package to the author of the most compelling essay regarding their battle with cancer. In particular, we are looking for a young adult or teenager whose life has been affected by cancer to write a short one page, 500 words or less, essay about why they should get this opportunity. Entrants must be US Residents.

There is no specific formula to follow, we are simply hoping to help someone who has dealt with or is currently fighting this disease to realize that there are positive things to look forward to just around the corner. We would like nothing better than to see a deserving person truly enjoy this special event.

Please e-mail letters to Te-@Trubicon.org and be sure to include your Name, mailing address, email address and phone number where you can be reached. Entrants under 18 years of age must include Parent name and contact information also. All entrants must be US Residents. Only one letter per person, please. Confirmation of entry will be sent by email within 24 hours. In addition to the winner receiving the Polka Dot package, we will award the top ten letters with an honorable mention and a pair of custom Team Rubicon socks.

Team socks are now available at $10 a pair, plus shipping and handling if we need to mail them. 100% of the proceeds (the entire $10 per pair) will go to the LAF.
