All of OBRA-

Please contact Sen. Brian Boquist in opposition to Senate Bill 551-
especially if you are a business owner.

This senate bill proposes to have mandatory registration of all
bicycles- including bikes that aren't used on the road. That means
cross bikes, mountain bikes etc. If you ride in a park, only on Sandy
Ridge or trails- you'll have to pay a yearly tax.

This includes kid's bikes. The only exemption is for tricycles. So
if you have an Isla Bike, a Skuut or a Strider you will also be forced
to register your kids' bikes.

If you sell your bike, whether on e-bay or give it to goodwill you
will be forced to report it to DMV.

This is really an attempt to defund bike projects as it proposes to
create a bicycle transportation "fund" out of the registrations. The
net is that the cost to operate a registration will likely exceed the
revenues which means the transportation "fund" is a farce.

Note this is different from SB 177 which is the one that was submitted
on behalf of a constituent. This new bill is moderated from SB 177
which indicates that someone is working the concept more than being on
behalf of a constituent.
