Rider Etiquette Concern

Folks-

There was no crash on purpose. I talked to two people- one person was
immediately behind and one immediately to the side.

>From behind: "A guy in front of me bumped someone and panicked by
hitting his brakes. He locked up his rear wheel and went down in the
middle of the pack while we were going 28 mph."

>From the side- "I saw a rider in a white-ish jersey cross wheels
beside me and take the typical tumble."

Best wishes for a quick recovery for the rider who went down.

I would add to Jordan's message, a little tip or trick of the trade.

I know one of the crashes was do to a rider looking back for teammates, then over-lapping the wheel in front, over correcting, then losing control.

We all look back, we all look around for teammates, I would suggest when you're looking for a teammate, just move to the right or left of the wheel in front of you so if the pack slows down, you have time to respond.

Sorry people went down yesterday, it was such a nice day for a bike ride.

Cheers

I have no intentions of starting a "pee thread" or "doping thread" but I feel that this should be made known to everyone who races. Due to the nature of our sport crashes happen, but its very rare that we hear of intentional crashes or deliberate moves to put another racer in harms way. After yesterdays event I had a fellow official come up to me and share that another racer had said something extremely unsettling to the racer who was on the ground at the scene. I get at the time when adrenaline is racing and you are possibly in shock things can be said but I think it takes the bigger person to admit when they have crossed the line and need to take a step back from or even apologize for said behavior. Things can change in an instant and injuries at a race can be catastrophic. Remind yourself and teammates that this is a "HOBBY" for a large majority of us and making it across the line upright is the goal every time.
