Below is info. I received about the new off road trails to actually be built on Metro land. If you can attend the May 6th meeting (6-8 PM at Skyline School) that would continue to show the strong support (and thus the cycling trails inclusion) by the off road cycling community. If I get any more info. I will pass it along, but being there will again be a huge boost for future off road riding in the Portland area.........where little exists. Please take a couple of minutes to read, show up and be positive.

Thanks so much and keep the faith OBRA.

Things are moving in a “very good” direction for off road access at Portland City Hall as well. More info. coming.

Now get out there and ride that bike!

Good news - there are trails for off-road cycling in the plan. Metro wants our input on several questions.

North Tualatin Mountains Community Open House #3

This is the third open house being hosted by Metro and the future of the North Tualatin Mountain property. The four sites include land above highway 30 and include Burlington Creek, Ennis Creek, McCarthy Creek, and North Abbey Creek natural areas – total about 1,300 acres.

Metro will be presenting alternate trail plans for review and comment. Metro included the desire of a majority of the 200 people in attendance at the last meeting who supported off road cycling. They are seeking input at this point regarding several questions regarding access and trail strategy. Specifically do we favor a basic system utilizing the existing logging roads with some additional connector trails, or a system with additional shared use trails and some uni-directional trails, or a strongly separated trail system to minimize conflicts. They are also seeking input regarding where to spend the limited available funding, for example spend a majority on one parcel and fully achieve the goals, or spread available funding over all parcels but limit facilities such as parking, restrooms and trails.

The NWTA representative on the advisory committee indicated there would be strong support to leverage funds by providing volunteer labor for building and maintenance of trails. They also indicated that volunteers could help patrol the trails, if a meaningful system was open to access for bikes. If you are interested in being involved, please express your interest in implementation to Metro at the meeting. A strong volunteer interest is key to getting access as quick as possible.

The plans to be presented show Metros commitment to protect habitat while providing new opportunities for hiking, trail running, off-road cycling, wildlife viewing, and other activities. This will likely be the last opportunity for public comment that could shape the final plan, so please try to attend.

When: Wed., May 6, 6 to 8 p.m.

Where: Skyline School, 11536 NW Skyline Blvd. Portland, OR 97231
