Hey everyone,
All systems are go for tonight's Portland Short Track race # 1!
Below is the call-up list with the 150+ racers who already purchased a series pass and who will enjoy a weekly call-up at the front of their category.
Online registration has closed, but you can still register at the race tonight starting at 4:30pm (until 15' before the start of your race). You will also still be able to purchase a series pass at the same price as the online series pass ($150 for adults, $60 for 18 and under, $30 for second race) and enjoy your own special start line call-up, starting next week!
A couple reminders:
- If you haven't registered for the race yet, make sure to bring cash or checks to pay for your race, as we do not accept credit cards. There is an ATM at the entrance of PIR, but it has ran out of cash in the past (especially after busy weekend track events).
- If you're a current OBRA member, make sure to bring your OBRA card or other proof of current membership (e.g. OBRA renewal confirmation email). We will sell OBRA annual licenses ($30) and 1-day licenses ($5) at the race.
- All checks (including for OBRA licenses) must be made out to "Portland Racing".
- Call-ups will start about 15' before the start of each race heat.
- Pre-registered riders must pick up their race plates at the info desk (next to registration).
- Make sure to use 3 pipe cleaners (available at registration) to attach your race plate to your handlebars, in front of any brake/shifter cables, so our lap counters can easily read your number.
- In good tradition, you will be able to enjoy free PB&J sandwiches after your race, courtesy of Dave's Killer Bread. (Thanks, Dave!)
- In equally good tradition, our title sponsor Hopworks Urban Brewery will offer short track racers over 21 a much-deserved $2.50 first beer special at their Bike Bar (on N Williams), tonight and every Monday throughout the series!
Finally, if you are still on the fence and the possibility of sprinkles keeps you going back and forth on racing tonight, just have a look at Victor Duong's photos from last year's Short Track race # 3, which took place in the aftermath of an epic thunderstorm:

As you can tell from the shots, it turned into a great race night, with a real fun course. Today, we are not expecting anywhere as much rain (things might clear up by this evening). If anything, the moisture we'll see should soften up the course a bit (after the exceptionally dry past couple weeks) and make things less bumpy and lines more tacky, just a perfect way to ease into the series!
Anyway, looking forward to seeing you all out at PIR tonight for some good old short track fun!

PS: Victor Duong will be at the races tonight to shoot the action, so there is another reason to come out and show off your racing skills!
