The middle guy was prevented from also moving right by making contact with the guy behind him on the right who leaned on him. Alternatively the middle guy could have not steered into the closing hole without knowing that he could also go right if needed. Looks like a mutual combatants situation where the 2 that hit the deck shared responsibility.
