Hey everyone!

Some updates ahead of tonight's Portland Short Track race # 2, which promises to feel a bit different but equally fun as last week's kick-off race!

First off, a major shout to everyone who came out to race last week (we counted 320 racers plus another 20 kids racers) and a special welcome to all the riders who raced short track for the very first time! From the great action shots posted by our series photographer Victor Duong (https://www.flickr.com/photos/42573615@N03/sets/72157653795848902), it is obvious that everyone had a blast and we hope you are all ready for more!

1) Results & Team standings.
Final results of race # 1 and series standings have been posted on OBRA (http://obra.org/events/23594/results). Best 7 out of 8 races will count towards the individual series standings, so still time to get your act together and start picking up points! And don't forget our team competition (http://obra.org/events/24114/results), which will tally each team's best 6 placings at each race (across all categories) and which currently shows Cyclepath Racing and Team Lazy Tarantulas going head-to-head out of the gate!

2) Call-up list for today's races.
Check out the call-up list for race # 2, with the 175+ racers who purchased a series pass and will enjoy a start-line call-up each week:
http://www.portlandracing.com/call-up-list-2015-06-08.html
BTW: today is the last day to purchase a series pass - at the reduced rate of $130 for adults and $50 for juniors - and get your name added to the call-up list for the rest of the series!

3) Race plates & upgrades.
If you raced last week, make sure to bring back your race plate and re-use the pipe-cleaners. Also, a reminder to always use 3 pipe cleaners to attach your plate and to position your plate in front of any brake/shifter cables (for maximum readability). If you plan to upgrade or change category at any time during the series, you will have to request a new plate at registration. If you forget or lose your plate, you will have to purchase a new plate at registration (cost: $5).

4) Reminder: FREE weekly short track skills clinics from 4:30 to 5:30pm before the races.
Tonight, our clinic instructors Elaine and Ted will be joined by Bike Gallery's powerhouse and 8-time Short Track champion Shannon Skerritt who will focus on teaching junior racers some basic racing skills, including cornering, body position, balancing, and visual skills. So come out early to learn from the Short Track Jedi! Even if you are running late, you can still join in while they're out on the course. You don't have to register in advance for the clinics - or be registered for a race - but you must fill out a series waiver before participating in the clinic.

5) Our first batch of weekly raffle winners!
Even if you are not a contender for the podium, you still make a chance each week to be victorious in our popular weekly raffle... like:
- Renata Hahn, who is our first Queen of the Night and wins a $50 gift certificate, courtesy of our Women's sponsor Bike Gallery!
- Jacob Smith, who wins our Junior of the Week prize, a free Lumberyard "Skills Clinic" pass, good for 2 hours of personal instruction and free riding at the "Short Track Juniors Shred-It Night", hosted by the Lumberyard Bike Park at the end of the Short Track season.
- Scott Ballard, John Walrod, Nick Hodson, James Tervo and Mike Heenan, who are our weekly beer prime winners and will ride home tonight with a variety 4-pack of HUB beer... four delicious flavors in convenient 16oz cans!
- Terry Hamness, who wins a customized Short Track Blaq Tool Pocket and a complementary bottle of HUB organic ale.
- Jan Moss and Phil Avery, who each get to claim a bag of Nossa Familia Coffee and a complementary loaf of Dave's Killer Bread.
- And, last but not least, Dan Renn who wins a free race entry to next Sunday' Race for the Future, hosted by our friends of the Camas Bike Team, and which promises to be an awesome race!

And don't forget that throughout the duration of the series, all short track racers get to enjoy a $2.50 "first beer" special on Monday nights at the Hopworks Bike Bar!

That's it. Tonight, we'll bring out the summer, we'll change up the course - including some fun lines on the motocross track - and we hope to see you all out at PIR for another night of Short Track fun!

Cheers,
~Kris

PS: registrations are coming in steadily for the Six Hours of Mt Hood, which will take place on Sunday June 28 (less than a month away!) at the Mt Hood Skibowl mountain resort. The snow is all gone and the course is in great shape, so it promises to be another great edition. First 200 riders who pre-register receive a free commemorative pint glass, so don't wait around and register today at
