I have gotten complaints from the people that are still using the
velodrome to train that there have been people riding on the track with
cyclocross bikes. There are a few problems with this. One is that riding
low pressure knobby tires on the banks can be fairly dangerous as you can
slide off pretty easily. The other issue is that dirt and stones left on
the track are a problem for people using high pressure track tires.
Actually even dust left on the steep banks can be a problem. This is not
so much of an issue when there is an organized race where the track is
swept clean afterwards. It is a different deal if it is individuals or
small groups where no one is cleaning up afterward.
Bottom line is that I would request that people do not ride on the
velodrome itself or on the apron (the flat parts) unless they are using
clean, minimal tread tires.
