Can I run a SRAM Mtb rear der w/Rival road shifters? (yes, for cx)

Sounds like all the cool kids are using the x9 type2. Ha-ha

I use regular 1x rings so I can change rings for each course. The x9 is so tight that I doubt that I even need any type of chain catcher but I still use a Paul components just in case.

I have SRAM x9 type 2 short cage rear mech and SRAM road levers on both my 1×10th cross bikes.  I also use a narrow wide chain ring with no other guide or keeper.  Works well, never lost a chain.

Yes, MTB and rd sram is the same ratio. I recommend the x9 type 2. Cage leangth vaires on 2x or 1x.

I run 1x10 short cage with great results.

I'm running a 1x10 w/Rival all around but would like the "comfort" of a mtb der for the inevitable steep stuff in CX.

I've had a bike in the past that had a xtr rear der + tiagra shifters so I assume I can do the same w/sram?

If you happen have to both a cheap but functional sram mtb der + 10spd cassette lemme know off line.
