I just received a call from one of the Cadonau family members. The
Cadonaus are the owners of Alpenrose Dairy. She lives on Illinois Street,
directly opposite the main entrance to the Dairy. She called to tell me
that she is getting complaints from her neighbors about and has personally
witnessed episodes of people riding on the street in a fashion that was
perceived as dangerous and/or disrespectful to the people that live in the
neighborhood. Evidently this is noted most on Wednesday evenings and
appears to be associated with people going to Blind Date who are often
wearing race numbers. Now I realize that bikes are entitled to use the
whole lane, that no one has actually yet been injured, that non-bike
people may perceive some bike riding behavior as dangerous when it is
actually just normal stuff, yada, yada yada. The bottom line is that
people are watching your behavior. If we want to continue to enjoy using
the Alpenrose site and continue to have their considerable support for
bike racing it is important that everyone behave in a manner that is
respectful for the people in the neighborhood, as most people already are.
If you see people that are not doing this, call them out on it. This is
particularly important as we are coming up on the 2 day weekend event
which will tax people's patience with outside of the Dairy on street
parking and large numbers of participants.
