What: At next Wednesday's Blind Date, we will conduct a cancer fund
raiser, during our one lap, handicapped-start, Stampede Race, at 5:45
pm. The beneficiary is the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, which is
described at the bottom of this email.

Details: Interested racers should solicit sponsors in advance, and fill
out pledge forms with each sponsor's name, and pledge amount. Each
sponsor will pay their pledge amount, multiplied by the number of racers
their racer defeats. For example, if a sponsor pledges $1, and their
racer places 8th out of 20 racers, the sponsor will owe $12 ($20 - $8 =
12). All proceeds go to OHSU and are tax deductible.

Stampede'n Fun! If you've never raced in or seen our Blind Date at the
Dairy Stampede, it's a zany one lap race, where we send our first-timers
out first, followed by our age 70+ Men, followed by beginners, followed
category C, then B Women, followed by 60+ Men, , etc. etc., .with the
Men's A field starting last. We've had winners from all categories over
the years and applaud this week's winner, 70 + Einer Traa, who earned
his second Blind Date leader's jersey in the process!

Great Opportunity: This is a great opportunity to introduce your
cycling enthusiast friends to bike racing in a low key, fun and
worthwhile manner. At one lap, on a Tony Kic-designed flow course, it
doesn't get any better, and for five bucks ($2.50 as a 2nd race), it's
the cheapest bike race in Oregon!

Your Participation Helps! Even if you only have one sponsor for 2
cents, your participation will help fight cancer by increasing the field
size, to raise the stakes for other sponsors, and by giving OHSU hard
evidence of the grass roots support, which it needs to successfully
attract big contributions.

$$$$$ Indeed, OHSU just raised $800 million from over 10,000 sponsors
from all 50 states. These grass roots contributions and participants
help set up Phil Knight's $400 million matched funds contribution, and
Ma Doyle's $100 million contribution. As a direct consequence, OHSU is
attracting hundreds of millions of dollars of new, pharmaceutical
industry cancer research laboratories. All of this will have huge
impacts on our local economy and will help place Portland at the
forefront of cancer research!

We Want You! Email me for your pledge sheet. I'll pay the entry fee
for the first ten racers who email me for a pledge sheet. Bring your
pledge sheets to the start line - they may influence your call up! Of
course we'll have swag for all participants, a Blind Date leader's
jerseys for our winner and our biggest fund raiser. You can preregister
for the September 30th Stampede online from the OBRA website.

Feel free to email Tony or me for more information and to pass this on
to your friends to help OBRA Stampede Against Cancer! - Joe
