Obraland frame builders,
Given all the local frame building talent here, I'm looking to see if it is
possible and if so, who would be willing to lengthen (or replace?) a steel
fork steer tube for me. You can also just tell me it isn't a goo idea.
Here is my situation.
I recently purchased a vintage 62 cm Steel Eddy Merckx frame with the
original 1" steel flat crown fork and it has been cut too short. The
threads don't extend beyond the first top cap and no threading available
for the top nut. I think if it had 7 to 10 mm more tube, I would be set.
I'm trying to use a vintage campy headset (I have a chorus and a record in
hand). The seller claims to have maybe used a campy headset as well, but
through my limited research it must have been a campy pista track low stack
headset or something similar. My current headset has about 36mm of stack
and I think a 30mm stack headset would fit, maybe. I cannot seem to find a
low stack campy headset and I'm not even certain that would work anyway.
Further, even if I did find one I think this will set my stem too low. I
don't want to put a riser stem on a beautiful frame like this.
Is there a frame builder out there who could help me?
thanks,
