Easy solution is to race Single Speed, no age

categories and only one gear to worry about.

A question has come up with the promoters of the

VW Trek mountain bike

series here in Oregon. We are woundering how you

would react to

changing the age groups as follows: senior 19-29,

vet 30-39, and master

 40+?

We had them as senior, 19-34, vet 35-44, and

master 45+ for the last

 couple of years.

Why don't you just leave them the same as last year and allow people to race

in a younger or more competitive category if they prefer. Besides that I

turn 45 next year.

As a 35 year old I would just like to say this ....age categories are a

bummer!!!!!

Any positive change would eliminate age categories all together.

Age is irrelevant. An over 45 road racer took 4th in the Oregon Hill

Climbing Champ.

ahead of several Cat 1 pros, denying him the opportunity to show the pro's

how to

climb a hill would have been wrong. The same is true for mountain bike

racing.

Categories by skill and we will produce the fastest racers.

I'm 33 and I would rather race in the more competitive category. My biggest fear is that the 30 - 39 category would sometimes race a shorter course.
