Thoughts from a pit official

Thought one: Wheels in the pit. Saturday was a small race, but there were multiple sets of the same kind of wheel. Sunday at Crusade it was worse. Mark your wheels! As simple as a paint pen when your name on the rim, a bright colored zip tie on the spoke or hub, etc.
Thought two: From the OBRA rule book: 7. Clothing and Equipment 7.1 Helmets Every rider warming up or racing while at the race venue shall wear a protective, securely fastened helmet that satisfies at least one of the following helmet standards. Both days this weekend (and at Alpenrose when I wasn't working) I saw many riders without helmets, or not fastened. Most people I talked to were very courteous (and I found it funny the number of people who didn't realize they didn't have one on), but remember, if you mouth off to an official, you very well could be DQ'd from the day for it.
