Is there a nonprofit that collects clothes, bikes, and bike parts for Portland area junior racers? Intermittently I have quality, functional gear I am not using that I would rather donate for the the tax deduction than try to sell. Essentially the Goodwill of the bike racing world. Likely others are in the same boat. Community Cycling Center takes donations. This would focus on the OBRA community, helping to grow the sport from the bottom up by decreasing the cost of a very expensive sport. The idea is to make it simple for people to donate quality, useable items. The person donating gets the paper stating items were donated. For example, Goodwill doesn't document what is given, the person donating specifies what is given, the condition and the value. The receiving end only gives out the document saying something was donated. Stipulate that items must be in working order, clothes must be clean, etc. Certain items would not be allowed, such as used tires, cables, that pair of bibs with the stain in the seat, you get the idea. Limiting the donations to clothes only would be a simple alternative, take up less storage space, and eliminate liability issues. I have absolutely no idea what would be involved in setting up such an entity, with the second issue being storage/dispersement, and potential liability concerns. The idea has been percolating in my head for a while now. If people with actual know how are interested, I want to help this come to life.Thanks,Dennis_______________________________________________OBRA mailing listobra@list.obra.orghttp://list.obra.org/mailman/listinfo/obraUnsubscribe: obra-unsubscribe@list.obra.org

Dennis,

I think this is a GREAT idea...specifically because I am trying to start a
high-school cycling team/club and an immediate issue is/are kids who are
interested with lack of funds and/or equipment.

I am here to support if I can get some solid direction.

Best,
Kelly

The idea has been percolating in my head for a while now. If people with actual know how are interested, I want to help this come to life.
